Leslie Malota

Artist Statement

Art making is my passion. Throughout my life in art I have studied both Fine Art and Costume Design, worked in Theatre, Directed and participated in many Local Artshows. My career is devoted to the presentation and preservation of artwork: I am a co owner of Frame Space Custom Picture Framing & Art, est 2007 and I have been Picture Framing for close to 30 years. The studio at 538 Adelaide Street also offers me a space and focus for my ongoing painting practice.

In 2015, I began taking Watercolour classes with Hilda Markson Gray. Hilda and the class inspire my creativity through our shared knowledge, experience and friendship. I joined the London Community Artists to further my involvement in the arts and culture of our community while meeting, learning and showing with a larger group of Local Artists.

My painting process is guided with an intuitive approach. I love experimenting and discovering spontaneously; colours, forms and content. Not a whole lot of planning, but a feeling. A love for our natural world, I draw on its influence in all of my work. My subjects include; water, landforms, elements and sky presented in an abstracted style. Drawing on travels, natural curiosity and observation of botany for inspiration.
